Jean Royerè by Galerie Patrick Seguin

Ooh, la, la! Design Miami/ spread its wings to New York City during art fair week, and one of it’s premier participating galleries, Galerie Patrick Seguin, hosted a Jean Royerè retrospective at the Sonnabend Gallery at 536 West 22nd Street (and lucky for you, if you happen to be in New York, the show is on view until April 12).

This was the first important retrospective of the 20th-century French decorator’s work. The exhibition, which was curated by Seguin and Galerie Jacques Lacoste, includes approximately 100 pieces of furniture and lighting that illustrate the decorator’s adventurous career. He was recognized for his use of innovative shapes, rich materials and lush colors. His range of styles is also impressive: from modern seating designs to wallpaper that would make Martha Steward coo and a bed that only Marie Antoinette could love!
