Quote from Hanging Barn Door Track System for Interior :
Do you know that you can actually hang barn door track system for your interior yourself? This DIY project is actually not too difficult, as long as you have the skill as well as the barn door track hardware required for the work to succeed. The installation usually will not take longer than a half day to finish.
To hang an interior barn door track system, you can purchase a barn door track kit so you have all the materials come together as one, thus saving your time and effort. In general, you need mounting board, drywall anchors, cutting oil, sliding barn door hardware and system, and paint. For the tools, prepare drill bit, awl, socket wrench, level, drill, metal cutter, safety goggles, work gloves, tape measure, and router with half-bit.
Start the barn door track installation project from attaching a mounting board in the same length as the track, but a little wider than one. It’s to keep the track to your wall, adding support for heavy sliding barn door. Use lag bolts, spacers, and drywall anchors to hold the board. You can paint the board beforehand, depending on how you want the board to look. The next step is to use joint brackets to join flat steel track following the manufacturer’s instruction. Cut the track with length as you wish—for instance cut it twice the door width to allow the barn door to open whole width of door space.
The next step is to measure followed by drilling holes using a metal cutting drill in steel barn door track in a place where it will be attached to the wall and mounting board. Use a punch or an awl to make a place for drill bit. This way, you will not end up slipping on the metal as you are drilling. Continue by applying cutting oil to the hole so you can keep it cool.
Now is the time to install the barn door track and spacers. Use lag bolds to install the spacers and track to the wall and mounting board. Be sure the track is level perfectly and don’t forget to measure the system beforehand. And lastly, attach the rollers to the door following the manufacturer’s instruction, using supplied nuts, washers, and carriage bolts. Tighten using socket wrench. Get help from someone else to attach the rollers and bottom roller guide, followed by hanging the door on its track.
